Mumbai Police Lodge FIR Against Nayanthara's Film 'Annapoorani' Over Alleged Promotion of "Love Jihad"

Nayanthara achieved a significant milestone with her 75th film, "Annapoorani." Directed by Nilesh Krishnaa, the movie features Nayanthara, Jai, and Sathyaraj in pivotal roles, hitting theaters on December 1, 2023. Despite the star-studded cast, the film received a lukewarm response, grossing Rs 5 crore at the box office.

As reported by The Republic, a complaint has been lodged at the LT Marg Police Station in Mumbai, alleging that the movie promotes Love Jihad. The complaint also highlights a scene where actor Jai allegedly claims that Lord Ram was a meat eater, causing offense to religious sentiments.

Titled "Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food," the film sparked controversy following its digital premiere on Netflix. The Hindu IT Cell filed a complaint with the Mumbai police, asserting that the movie misrepresented Valmiki's Ramayana and criticized Lord Ram. The storyline revolves around a girl aspiring to be a chef, facing challenges due to her status as the daughter of a Hindu temple pujari. A contentious scene depicts her performing the Islamic prayer Namaz, wearing a scarf, before a cooking competition. Nayanthara's character recalls a friend from college who praised her Briyani, claiming it tasted exceptional when she performed Namaz before cooking. This particular scene has ignited controversy, as it is deemed offensive to religious sentiments.
