After Ranbir Kapoor, the ED summons Kapil Sharma, Huma Qureshi, and Hina Khan for interrogation in the Mahadev betting app case

New Delhi: In connection with the Mahadev betting app case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned comedian Kapil Sharma, as well as actors Huma Quresha and Hina Khan, on Thursday.

The summons comes two days after the agency summoned actor Ranbir Kapoor for questioning in connection with the matter on October 6.

Several A-list celebrities have been arrested for carrying out promotional efforts for the app.

According to agency sources, as many as 14-15 celebrities and actresses are being investigated in connection with the case and will be summoned soon.

According to information provided by the investigating agency in mid-September, the Mahadev online book betting app is an umbrella syndicate that organizes online platforms that allow illegal betting websites to enroll new users, create user IDs, and launder money through a layered web of benami bank accounts.

The founders of the Mahadev app are running 4-5 similar apps from the UAE.

Every day, the apps are said to make a profit of several crores of rupees.

According to the ED, large-scale hawala activities are taking place to divert gambling earnings to offshore accounts.

According to the ED, large sums of money are also being spent in India on advertising betting websites in order to attract new customers and franchise (panel) aspirants.

According to the police, the main app became live in 2017, but its popularity skyrocketed during the epidemic in 2020.

The major promoters of Mahadev Online Book are Sourabh Chandrakar, 28, and Ravi Uppal, 43, both from Chhattisgarh's Bhilai.

The ED recently conducted raids in Raipur, Bhopal, Mumbai, and Kolkata, seizing illegal assets worth Rs 417 crore. The FBI has also begun a serious probe abroad.

A special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Raipur has also issued non-bailable warrants against the suspects.
