BMW has been actively teasing the second-generation X2 crossover for the last few weeks, and the German luxury car manufacturer has now unveiled the vehicle. The next generation BMW X2 features new appearance, two powertrain options, and a slew of innovative technologies. The X2 is set to make its public premiere later this month at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, and it may come to India after launching in other worldwide markets.
The new BMW X2 is drastically different in appearance from its predecessor. The new X2 has a coupe-like roofline that blends into the back. In comparison to its predecessor, the crossover's upright front face, wide wheel arches, and muscular rear profile give it a strong and bold visual appeal. The vehicle also has new LED headlamps and taillights. Another stylistic feature that distinguishes the X2 from its younger sibling, the X1, is the optional lighted kidney grille. The new X2 is also the automaker's first compact crossover with optional 21-inch wheels.
The car has a clean surface due to the few dynamic lines on the side profile. The door handles are also integrated into the body, increasing the car's aerodynamic efficiency. BMW states that the new X2 is 7.6 inches longer at 179.8 inches, with a 0.9-inch longer wheelbase than the previous model.
Moving inside, the new BMW X2 provides additional space for the occupants due to the size increase. The automobile is fitted with BMW iDrive 9, which places a greater emphasis on touch and voice control via the BMW Curved Display and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. A 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment display are combined into a single glass panel on the curved display. One of the new inside features is a cabin-facing camera that can snap photos and record videos.
The X2 xDrive28i is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine in the new-generation BMW X2. This is the base model, with a peak output of 237 bhp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. It can also accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h in 6.2 seconds. The highest variation, the X2 M35i xDrive, is powered by a more powerful 2.0-litre engine that produces 307 bhp peak power and 400 Nm peak torque. This engine can accelerate the car from a standstill to 96 kmph in 5.2 seconds. Both models use a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
