Nita and Mukesh Ambani Accord Traditional Welcome to IOC President Thomas Bach at Their Residence

It was a traditional greeting for International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach, who was hosted by Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries Limited, and his wife Nita Ambani, the first Indian woman to be chosen as an IOC member.

Bach visited the Ambanis at their mansion ahead of the 141st IOC session, which will be place between October 15 and 17 in Mumbai.

The IOC session is the Olympic movement's highest decision-making body. It debates and makes decisions on the fundamental activities of the worldwide Olympic movement, such as the approval or amendment of the Olympic Charter, the election of IOC members and office-bearers, and the selection of the Olympic host city. For example, if cricket is selected to compete in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the formal announcement will be made at the Mumbai session.

WHO WILL ATTEND THE SESSION?

There are now 99 voting members and 43 honorary members in the IOC session. More than 600 members of the sporting world's elite are expected in Mumbai, as well as global media from around 100 countries covering more than 50 sports.

WHERE WILL THE SESSION TAKE PLACE?

The event will be held at Mumbai's cutting-edge Jio World Convention Centre. The JWC, located in the heart of the city at the Bandra Kurla Complex, is India's largest convention center and will open in early 2022. The opening ceremony will take place in the great theatre of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), while the session meeting will take place in the exhibition hall (pavilion).

An Indian delegation led by Nita Ambani, the first Indian woman elected as an IOC member, made a persuasive argument at the 139th IOC session in Beijing in February 2022, after which Mumbai got 99% support for its bid.

The Mumbai session will be a watershed moment for Indian sport, firmly establishing India on the global sporting map, opening up numerous opportunities in sports event organization, world-class training infrastructure, talent development, and enriching the lives of millions of Indian athletes. It will also be a crucial step toward India's future ambitions of hosting the Youth Olympics and the Olympic Games, a desire Nita Ambani emphasized when Mumbai's winning bid was announced.
