CBI Raids Mamata's Ministers' Homes in the Wake of Bengal Recruitment Scam

Kolkata: As part of the ongoing investigation into the purported Bengal Recruitment Scam, officials from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are conducting searches at the homes of Bengal Ministers Firhad Hakim and Madan Mitra.

"The raids are being carried out in connection with illegal municipal recruitment in Group C and Group D posts, which is being investigated in accordance with the court's order," a CBI official was cited as saying by The Indian Express (IE).

The CBI's efforts have triggered heated political disputes, with Hakim supporters labeling it a "political vendetta" intended at toppling the state government. The Bengal recruiting Scam is centered on charges of anomalies in the government job recruiting procedure. The agency issued a statement and verified searches in 12 locations in Kolkata. In response to this move, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi stated, "CBI, Income Tax, and ED are the alliance partners of the BJP."

The CBI searched the homes of people involved in an ongoing probe in 12 cities on Sunday, including Kolkata, Kanchrapara, Barrackpore, Halisahar, Dumdum, North Dum Dum, Krishnanagar, Taki, Kamarhati, Chetla, and Bhawanipur, according to IE.

Following the instructions of the Calcutta High Court on April 21, a complaint was brought against a private company's director and several unidentified individuals. "It was alleged that the director of a private company and others including public servants hatched a conspiracy among themselves and in pursuant to that conspiracy, the accused (being responsible for the printing, designing and evaluation of OMR sheets) allegedly facilitated the illegal appointments of several unmeritorious candidates in several municipalities in lieu of money," the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) stated.
