Making 'Mahakal Lok' an issue will be harmful to Cong: Yadav

Bhopal, Oct 11 (PTI) Dr. Mohan Yadav, Madhya Pradesh's higher education minister, stated on Wednesday that the Congress is spreading false information about the construction of 'Mahakal Lok,' which was recently damaged by a cyclone, and that anomalies the "size of a hairbreadth" occurred in the project.

The minister of the BJP-ruled state, where assembly elections are scheduled for November 17, said the severe windstorm also hit the "warehouses" of opposition politicians. He claimed that the Congress did not even leave Lord Mahakaleshwar for politics, but that the move will backfire.

A windstorm damaged the nearly 900-metre-long Mahakal Lok corridor near the famed Lord Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain in May. Since then, Congress has been targeting the ruling party, citing irregularities in the renovation project surrounding the historic shrine, one of the country's 12 "jyotirlings."

"These are false propaganda because irregularities as small as a hairbreadth occurred during the Mahakal Lok's construction." The idols were damaged by a violent windstorm. And nature spared no one, not even the stores of Congress leaders that day," Yadav, who is from Ujjain, told PTI in an interview.

When a storm of that magnitude or a natural disaster strikes, no one is spared, not even the Kedarnath temple, he claims. According to the minister, the windstorm was so severe that it damaged "warehouses of Congress leaders" as well as double-story mansions.

"Although the (idols) were damaged, they were replaced at no extra cost by the contractor." It has not cost the government a single penny," claimed Yadav, who is running for the third time from Ujjain South. Yadav was elected to this seat in 2013 and 2018.

The minister stated that the Congress is raking up the subject because it has no other problems to address, but the public understands everything.

"The Congress remembers Ramayana, Mahabharat, Ram Mandir and Hanuman only at the time of elections for the sake of vote bank," remarked Mr. Singh.

The newest manifestation of the Congress' "vote bank or appeasement" approach is its position on the Israel-Palestine dispute, in which "it stood with Hamas, which was publicly tormenting women and children as seen in the videos," he alleged, adding that "India stood with Israel."

According to Yadav, the Congress is raising the Mahakal Lok because it has resulted in a significant increase in the number of devotees visiting the temple city and has benefited the people of Ujjain economically.

According to him, the Congress believes that discussing this topic will harm the BJP's goodwill among the public. However, the public is aware of everything, and these actions will be "counterproductive" to the opposing party, according to the minister.

The Congress leaders have claimed "rampant corruption" in the state, particularly in the construction of the Mahakal Lok, whose first phase was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in every rally addressed by both Gandhi siblings - Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra - ahead of the MP polls.

The idols of 'Saptrishi' were shattered in a violent windstorm in May, and the Congress has claimed that the BJP has not even spared the God from corruption since then.

When asked about the BJP's decision to field big names in the assembly elections, Yadav said their leadership always makes decisions in the best interests of the party and that none of their leaders, including Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Patel, and Faggan Singh Kulaste, MP Rakesh Singh, and general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, are hesitant to run.

"However, the situation in Congress is different. Its top leaders, from former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh to Vivek Tankha and Arun Yadav, are avoiding assembly elections," he remarked.

"This demonstrates that the Congress is losing public support." That is why its leaders are unwilling to run in the assembly elections," Yadav explained.

Yadav laughed aside the Congress’ assertion that it was not releasing its candidates owing to the ongoing ‘Shraadh Paksha’ (inauspicious month) and because they are the actual adherents of ‘Sanatan Dharma’.

"It demonstrates that the Congress has accepted defeat in the upcoming assembly elections." What is the Congress left with now? Polls will be held in the following 32 days, and it is unable to declare its candidates. "Congress is concerned about the outcome and, as a result, is not playing its cards," he said.

The minister was quoted as saying, "Our party has come out with the fourth list and the fact that they are unable to release a single one till now shows that it is feeling uneasy as polls are approaching fast."

Concerning OBC (Other Backward Caste) politics and the need for a tribal chief minister, he stated that it was the BJP that has given OBCs and tribals high positions such as president, prime minister, and chief minister.

"During its long tenure, the Congress has done nothing for minorities and OBCs and is now talking about them in order to gain power." Similarly, they are elevating the topic of Sanatan Dharma and causing confusion among the people for political gain, but it will fail," he warned.

In response to another question, Yadav stated that the existence of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and other parties will have no effect on the BJP. Rather, it will harm the prospects of the Congress, as AAP has done in other states, he claims.

In reference to the higher education department in MP, the minister stated that under the BJP government's tenure, the state saw the establishment of 54 new government institutions and the launch of 40 new courses. He asserted that Madhya Pradesh is one of the top states in the country in terms of executing the National Education Policy (NEP).
