Union Minister Muraleedharan advises Indians in Israel to be cautious and to notify the Indian Embassy if necessary

Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan encouraged Indians trapped in Israel, which is at war with the Palestinian group Hamas, to remain safe and to call the Indian embassy in Jerusalem if they need assistance.

Muraleedharan told reporters here that the Indian embassy has already issued a warning to Indians to stay safe.

"Indians in Israel are welcome to contact the Indian Embassy at any time." "The embassy will provide any and all assistance to Indians who are stranded there," he said.

When asked about India's position on the continuing confrontation between Israel and the Hamas terrorist organization, Muraleedharan said the Prime Minister has made it plain and expressed outrage at the 'terror attack' on Israel.

"We express our solidarity with the people of Israel," stated Union Minister Sushma Swaraj.

On Saturday, Hamas launched a barrage of rocket assaults on Israel, killing over 200 people in the deadliest escalation in decades. According to media accounts, Israel replied with a series of air attacks on Gaza, killing more than 230 people.

On Saturday, the Indian embassy in Tel Aviv and the Indian Representative Office in Palestine issued cautions urging Indian nationals in their respective nations to "remain vigilant" and "directly contact the Office" in the event of an emergency.

According to the Indian Embassy's website, there are around 18,000 Indian citizens in Israel, principally caretakers employed by Israeli elderly, diamond traders, IT professionals, and students.
