Rogue Major Opens Fire and Explodes Grenade Inside Rajouri Camp in J&K; 3 Army Men Among 5 Critical

New Delhi: According to sources, an officer of major rank allegedly shot and detonated explosives at his fellow army men, injuring five of them, including three officers, inside a camp in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Thursday. According to PTI sources, the officer randomly attacked his coworkers during a shooting training, then barricaded himself in the unit's armoury and tossed grenades at his superiors who tried to persuade him to give up. The officer was subdued in the armoury after a nearly eight-hour standoff. The event occurred near Thanamandi in the district at the Neeli post.

According to reports, the army cleared a nearby community as a precautionary measure. The army, on the other hand, stated that an officer was injured in a possible grenade incident at a position in Rajouri. "On 05 Oct 23, the army's White Knight Corps reported on X that one officer was injured in a possible grenade mishap at a post in Rajouri sector." Officer was evacuated and is now stable following first treatment. The issue is still being investigated."

According to insiders, the camp had been conducting a firing drill for the past few days when the accused officer began shooting at his colleagues and juniors for no apparent reason on Thursday. When the commanding officer, his assistant, and the medical officer approached the building to try to persuade him to surrender, he locked himself in the camp's armoury and launched grenades, according to the sources.

They said that all three cops were injured when a grenade hurled by the accused exploded near them, and that the unit's second-in-command was in "critical" condition. According to sources, two more soldiers were injured in the random firing by the accused, who was overwhelmed at 11 p.m.

"I have received calls about some firing/terrorist attack on army camp in General Area Rajouri," said defence PRO Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, stationed in Jammu, in a message. I'd like to assure you that there was no terrorist attack, but rather an unfortunate internal camp occurrence."
