A magnitude 3.2 earthquake strikes Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi, the second in 48 hours

New Delhi: According to the National Center for Seismology, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter Scale struck the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand in the early hours of Thursday. The shocks were reported around 3:49 a.m., and the depth of the quake was recorded at 5km.



"Earthquake of Magnitude:3.2, Occurred on 05-10-2023, 03:49:47 IST, Latitude: 31.00 and Longitude: 78.29, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand," the National Center for Seismology said on X. More information is awaited.

This is the state's second earthquake in less than 48 hours. Pithoragarh was shaken by a magnitude 4.3 earthquake on Tuesday.

Four earthquakes struck Nepal on the same day, and the vibrations were felt in various Indian towns. The epicenter of the most intense quake was 284 kilometers north of Uttar Pradesh's capital, Lucknow, and 206 kilometers southeast of the pilgrimage town of Joshimath in Uttarakhand.

The earthquake's vibrations were felt in several parts of North India, including Delhi NCR, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

The sequence of Nepal earthquakes began about 2:25 p.m. with a magnitude 4.6 quake striking western Nepal at a depth of 10 kilometers. At 2:51 p.m., there was another 6.2 magnitude jolt.

Following that, two further tremors of 3.6 and 3.1 magnitude occurred in the same region at depths of 15 km and 10 km, respectively, at 3:06 and 3:19 p.m. The earthquakes that struck Nepal harmed over a dozen people.
