New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Central Election Committee met under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to decide on its candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. The principal topic of debate centred on Rajasthani districts where the party is more underrepresented. The idea of running multiple Members of Parliament (MPs) and ministers in the next assembly elections in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh was discussed.
After the core group meetings for Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, the Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting was held at the BJP headquarters. Around nine o'clock in the evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the BJP headquarters, where talks over the Rajasthan Assembly elections lasted for around two hours, according to sources.
At the meeting, which was held at the BJP's headquarters, were Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National Organisation General Secretary BL Santosh, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, and other members of the Central Election Committee.
According to party sources, negotiations for roughly 60 to 65 seats in Rajasthan were over. However, during the Central Election Committee meeting, the focus was mostly on the Rajasthani constituencies where the BJP is more marginalised.
Discussions of running a large number of MPs and ministers in the Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh assembly elections have also taken place. Out of the 200 seats in the Rajasthan Assembly, negotiations have already been held over 65 of them, while 69 seats in Chhattisgarh have already been discussed, according to party sources.
Prior to the BJP's Central Election Committee meeting, JP Nadda, the party's president, hosted a core group meeting to examine issues pertaining to the elections in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. Veteran leaders from Rajasthan included Vasundhara Raje, Arun Singh, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Arjun Ram Meghwal, while those from Chhattisgarh included Mansukh Mandaviya, Raman Singh, and others.
The BJP is now developing plans for the upcoming Assembly elections that will take place later this year in Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Mizoram.
