Nikhat Zareen experienced double happiness on Friday, September 29, when she defeated Jordan's Hanan Nazar in the opening round to earn a spot in the Paris Olympics 2024 and guarantee herself a medal in the upcoming Asian Games 2023.
In the women's 50kg division, Nikhat displayed her boxing skills at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou. In the round of 16, she competed against Chorong Bak of the Republic of Korea. Zareen won her fight by unanimous decision, showcasing her superior abilities and tactics. She advanced to the tournament's quarterfinals thanks to this victory.
Nikhat has been outstanding in the boxing ring this year, winning the Commonwealth Games gold medal last year in addition to her second World Championship. She knocked off Nazar in under a minute on Friday, winning her match in the 50 kg quarterfinals in only two minutes, and securing her spot in the semi-finals.
She has now guaranteed India a boxing medal and a spot in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Friday's boxing action in India was uneventful, but Parveen had won the women's 54-57 kg preliminary round on points after receiving unanimous decisions from all five judges. With China's Zichun XU, the Indian fighter dominated the first two rounds. In the third round, the Chinese fighter did receive some favourable decisions from the judges, but Parveen was able to defeat her rival.
