Apple has released a new software patch to solve the heating issue with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. iOS 17.0.3 is now being distributed to eligible iPhones.
In addition to fixing the heating issue, the update fixes additional problems and improves iPhone security. According to the changelog, iOS 17.0.3 will address the issue that led iPhones to run hotter than usual.
The iOS 17.0.3 update is around 420 MB in size for customers who are already on iOS 17.0.2. If you were one of the few who encountered heating issues with the recently released iPhone 15 Pro series, make sure to install this update, since it is said to resolve the issue.
The iPhone 15 series was announced by Apple in September, with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max (review) boasting the cutting-edge A17 Pro chip and a new titanium body. Following the release of these phones, some users began to complain about significant heating concerns, even with typical usage.
According to many reports, the new heating problem could be caused by the usage of titanium, which is a poor heat conductor when compared to steel and aluminum. Similarly, others have speculated that the new A17 Pro chip may be to blame for the excessive heating, given this problem was not detected in the base iPhone 15 series.
Apple then published a press release, attributing the issue to a software flaw and unoptimized apps, and confirming its intention to release an update to solve the problem. That promise has now been fulfilled by the brand.
