Despite having been in theatres for more than 20 days, Atlee Kumar's Shah Rukh Khan film Jawan is still going strong. Jawan is currently on course to achieve the Rs 600 billion milestone in the domestic market after surpassing the Rs 1,000 billion global milestone.
Actor Priyamani, who played a significant role in Jawan, is thrilled that the film is receiving so much love and appreciation since it has personal meaning for her. Following her participation in a dance routine in Rohit Shetty's Chennai Express (2013), which starred SRK and Deepika Padukone in the major roles, Jawan is her second collaboration with Bollywood's Baadshah.
In contrast to Bollywood, Priyamani recently discussed how South Indian film companies are better able to handle significant societal themes in their films.
Priyamani, who emphasised that one need not be actively engaged in politics to present a message or truth, told ETimes that the southern film industries have always been outspoken on these issues. She asserted with confidence that the problems discussed in Jawan, such as farmer suicides, the value of doctors, and the oxygen disaster, have indeed occurred. Priyamani added that the film's appeal to viewers was a result of its willingness to tackle these issues, which are raised frequently by viewers, saying, "It was high time that somebody spoke about them."
Priyamani, a proud native of Bengaluru, Karnataka, with roots in Tamil Nadu and Kerala as well, praised the southern cinema industries, stating that they have always dealt with a wide range of issues and that they still play an important role in the telling of stories.
She said, "I guess people up North have also faced such issues, but they were not open enough to talk about it," and hoped Jawan would inspire them to articulate their worries more effectively.
