ISL 2023-24: Mumbai City and Odisha FC were able to draw thanks to a late strike from Jorge Pereyra Diaz

Jerry Mawihmingthanga and Roy Krishna for Odisha scored the other goals, and Mumbai City's Rostyn Griffiths added another goal in the 47th minute.



At the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, Odisha FC held Mumbai City FC to a 2-2 draw in the Indian Super League. Sergio Lobera was playing against his old team, and the game featured some furious play that ultimately left little to separate the two teams.

Particularly in the park's core, the two sides struggled to exert more control over events from the start.

In the 42nd minute, Greg Stewart stepped up to take a free kick from the right side well outside the area. Although the attacking midfielder used good skill, the ball nevertheless missed the post by a few inches.

The Islanders, nevertheless, were unable to seize that advantage.

Mohammed Nawaz, the custodian for Mumbai, erroneously handled a cross-field ball from Isak Vanlalruatfela, giving Jerry Mawihmingthanga an opportunity to score and give the home team the lead.

After the intermission, Mumbai continued to exert intense pressure and was rewarded with a corner in the 47th minute.

Stewart took up set-piece duties once more and sent a fantastic looping cross that the center-back In order to give Mumbai the much-needed equaliser, Rostyn Griffiths left for home.

For a considerable amount of time, it appeared as though the game would end in a draw, and eventually it did, but not before both teams added another goal to their total.

In the 75th minute, Roy Krishna of Odisha was fouled by Nawaz within the penalty area, and the Fijian forward converted without hesitation.

However, as they continued to work hard to restore parity in the closing 15 minutes, the Islanders' strong resilience and tenacity were clearly visible.

After a number of passes on each side of the 18-yard box, Jorge Pereyra Daz received a vital lateral ball from Vikram Pratap Singh, who then assisted him in scoring in the 88th minute.

Both teams ultimately decided to split the points quite late in the game. They didn't fully shirk from trying to win it in stoppage time, but they also kept their backline together long enough to cling onto the one point earned from the game.

In their upcoming ISL match, Odisha FC will take on FC Goa at the Fatorda Stadium on October 7, while Mumbai City FC will welcome Kerala Blasters FC on October 8.
