'Sabka Saath... Inka Bakwaas...': Cong and TMC Criticise BJP for Ramesh Bidhuri's Election Performance in Rajasthan

New Delhi: Opposition lawmakers have criticised the BJP for assigning poll duty in Rajasthan's Tonk district to Ramesh Bidhuri, a member of the Lok Sabha who is currently in the spotlight for his disparaging remarks about BSP MP Danish Ali. Jairam Ramesh, the general secretary of the Congress, wrote on the social media platform X, "Sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas'—yeh sab hai inka bakwaas." Mahua Moitra, a TMC lawmaker, also criticised the BJP and claimed that Bidhuri had been "rewarded" for his comments towards a Muslim lawmaker. "How does the BJP assign a showcaused person a new role? Is this your Sneha Yatra for minorities, your love outreach, Narendra Modi ji? she questioned on X.

Since Bidhuri belongs to the same caste as the Gurjar community, which is heavily represented in the Tonk district, which has four assembly seats, including the one held by senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot, the BJP thinks he can help it win more votes. Pilot is a member of the Gurjar ethnic group.

According to party sources, Bidhuri's duties will be similar to those of the district's BJP poll in-charge. Additionally, Bidhuri announced on X that he had attended a Tonk district coordination meeting in Jaipur. The conference was presided over by Rajasthan BJP President C P Joshi.

After his insulting remarks on Ali in the Lok Sabha last week provoked widespread outrage and the opposition demanded his suspension from the House, the BJP issued a show-cause notice to the South Delhi MP.

Last Thursday, during a debate about the success of the Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission, Bidhuri made anti-Ali comments that caused a stir. As a result, opposition leaders demanded harsh punishment for the BJP MP.

In response to the BJP's MP's remarks, opposition parties have united around Ali and attacked the BJP. In a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, several members of the Congress, TMC, and NCP, among others, demanded the worst punishment for Bidhuri.
