The Supreme Court has reinstated Latha Rajinikanth's criminal charges in the 'Kochadaiiyaan' case

The Supreme Court restored the alleged criminal allegations against Latha Rajinikanth in relation to the Tamil film 'Kochadaiiyaan' on Tuesday.

This verdict was given by a panel of Justice AS Bopanna and MM Sundresh during the proceedings surrounding the petitions appealing the Karnataka High Court's judgment.

"As a result, the SLP(Crl) Nos. 9818/2022 and 8327/2022 are disposed of by restoring the final report filed." "However, the petitioner(s) in SLP(Crl.) No.8327/2022 are granted the liberty to file an appropriate application, if so advised, seeking discharge," the court stated.

"We make it clear that if such application is filed on behalf of the petitioner(s), the findings rendered under the impugned order will not stand in the way, and the Trial Court is directed," the ruling said.

"Taking into consideration the further submissions made, the physical presence of the petitioner-accused shall stand dispensed with until and unless the same is required by the court," according to the court.

According to the press release, the court stated: "Taking into consideration the further submissions made, the physical presence of the petitioner-accused shall stand dispensed with until and unless the same is required by the Trial Court."

"We further make it clear that we have not expressed any opinions on the merits of the case and it is well open to the parties to resolve the issue, also through mediation," the judge stated.

Both parties are contesting the August 2, 2022 order of the High Court of Karnataka.

After hearing both arguments, the court ruled that, based on this Court's previous order in Criminal Appeal on July 10, 2018, the petitioners' two options are to seek for discharge or to proceed with the trial.

Ad Bureau Advertising Pvt Ltd, situated in Chennai, has challenged the Karnataka High Court's decision to dismiss Latha's cheating case.

Latha had some respite on August 2, 2022, when the Karnataka High Court dismissed the cheating accusations against her, however the forgery charges remained.
