Following charges that he received foreign donations from the banned terror organization Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), Amarpreet Singh, the India director of the UK-based non-governmental organization Khalsa Aid, resigned.
According to a letter allegedly issued by Khalsa Aid on social media on October 8, organizational adjustments in the NGO's structure were required.
"We constantly strive to ensure the smooth operation of its management structure, and we strive to be accountable to the Sangat (people)." In order to achieve this goal, we have made modifications to our operations at the Khalsa Aid India Charitable Trust Board and Khalsa Aid India in recent days. "This change was required to ensure the smooth operation of the operations in Punjab and across India," the letter states.
Notably, the anti-terrorist agency National Investigation Team (NIA) searched Khalsa Aid's India headquarters in Patiala in August. Amarpreet Singh's paperwork and two mobile phones were seized by the agency.
Following the March 19 attack on an Indian mission in London, the NIA team searched Amarpreet Singh's house in the Patiala area. He was also questioned about the source of the money and the identities of NGO volunteers.
According to sources, Khalsa Aid came under the NIA's scrutiny when a complaint was filed against the US-based terrorist organization Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) during the farmer unrest in 2021.
The investigation agency claimed that SFJ funneled foreign funding through NGOs to "pro-Khalistan elements" for the purpose of spreading "propaganda against India."
Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a senior member of the SFJ, was assassinated in Canada in July of this year.
While Amarpreet Singh did not respond to requests for comment, Patiala CID authorities confirmed that he had resigned as Khalsa Aid's India director.
