The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has detained AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh in connection with a money laundering case involving the now-defunct Delhi Excise Policy, according to the Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Sanjay Singh was arrested after the Enforcement Directorate raided his home in connection with the Delhi excise policy-related money laundering case. Singh, 51, is the third AAP leader to be detained.
The Enforcement Directorate has requested that the AAP leader be detained for ten days. However, the court remanded Singh to ED custody until October 10.
Special Public Prosecutor Naveen Matta testified for the ED, saying the agency discovered transactions worth Rs 2 crore in two tranches, and AAP leader Manish Sisodia's close aide Dinesh Arora admitted the payment was received from Singh over the phone.
Matta told the court that thus far in the case, 239 locations had been searched, including searches on Singh's home on October 4. He went on to say that Arora's employee provided Rs 2 crore to Sarvesh, an AAP leader's employee, at his apartment.
"We need to extract digital data from him, and then he needs to be interrogated with other people." "We had called three people for questioning, and they had to face Sanjay Singh," he explained.
The ED informed the court that Sarvesh Mishra, a Sanjay Singh employee, was summoned for questioning on Friday.
Senior Advocate Mohit Mathur, who is representing Sanjay Singh, stated that the veracity of their star witness is being called into doubt.
"The tune changes with Dinesh Arora's shifting positions in the CBI and the ED." Supplementary statements are less trustworthy. What is the purpose of remand? "I'm remanding and telling the truth, and the reason 167 is there is because your Lordships is the guardian," he stated.
"Please see the questions they asked; now this non-cooperation has abruptly changed, and they say they want to question me (Sanjay Singh)." It's because there's a different agenda. What exactly is additional interrogation? "They pick up whoever they want," Mathur explained.
The ED stated that if he (Dinesh Arora) is an approver, there can be no doubt about his integrity because the Court granted him permission to become an approver.
Dinesh Arora, according to Zoeb Hussain, was threatened by Vijay Nair, which is why he was not providing the names of influential people like Sanjay Singh.
Sanjay Singh was arrested on Wednesday when the Enforcement Directorate raided his home. The ED raids began before 7 a.m. Wednesday, when the MP was at home with his wife, parents, domestic staff, and pets including dogs, fish, and birds. The ED raids came months after the agency raided three of his accomplices – Sarvesh Mishra, Ajit, and Vivek Tyagi – for alleged involvement in the alleged Delhi liquor fraud.
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who paid a visit to Singh's apartment on Wednesday night, stated that agencies conducted thousands of raids but found no money.
"They (ED officials) searched his entire house but found nothing and arrested him in the evening." Elections are nearing, and PM Modi is frantic after the establishment of the INDIA alliance... They will arrest a large number of people till 2024. Sanjay Singh is like a lion..."We're going to court," he stated.
