Last month, Alphabet, Google's parent firm, announced the layoff of hundreds of employees from its recruiting staff. Even while the exact number of employees affected is unknown, several people have come forward to offer their side of the story. Alphabet stated in its announcement of the layoffs that the decision to let go of "a few hundred" employees was not "part of a large-scale layoff." In addition, the corporation stated that it will "retain a significant majority of the team for hiring critical roles." In addition, Alphabet indicated that it will assist impacted employees in finding new jobs "within the company and elsewhere."
Some former Google employees shared their thoughts on LinkedIn about how much they will miss their colleagues and workplace. Others, meanwhile, were grateful for the opportunity to work at the tech behemoth. One such employee stated on LinkedIn that he wished to continue working for the company until his retirement.
Google employee shares message about job loss
Beginning his post, the individual stated that he expected to work at Google until he retired. However, he was impacted by the recent major layoffs at the corporation. The man also explains how the layoffs were not tied to performance and how he received the news just as he was about to enter the second half of his paternity leave.
The ex-Google employee concluded his email by saying that he would return to work for the company "in a fraction of a heartbeat" and that it is a "magical place with remarkable people."
"I had hoped to work for Google until I retired, but alas. I'm devastated to report that I'm one of several brilliant Recruiters who have been affected by another wave of (non-performance-related) #layoffs. This is a few weeks before I was supposed to go for the second half of my paternity leave. But, hey, "at-will" means "at-will," and I understand that. If given the chance, I'd join the company again in a heartbeat.
"It's truly a magical place with extraordinary people." Thank you very much, #Google and #Googlers! "I'm optimistic because I understand the value I bring to the table, and I'm hoping to share a celebratory update soon rather than later," he added.
Concerning Google layoffs
Prior to firing off HR personnel, Google declared its intention to lay off 12,000 employees in January of this year. Google sacked employees from its Waze mapping app section a few months later when it began merging the program into Google Maps products. Google's Geo unit is led by Chris Philips, who informed staff of the layoffs through email.
