The path to success for Shefali Shah, an on-screen mother who won Emmys

At the 2023 International Emmy Awards, Shefali Shah, Vir Das, and Jim Sarbh will represent India. For her web series, Delhi Crime 2, she has received a nomination in the category of Best Performance by an Actress. In 2020, the show's inaugural season took home an international Emmy. In her distinguished career spanning more than two decades, the actress has made great strides.

Shefali didn't start her acting career with lead roles, despite always being a powerful performer. She first played minor and supporting roles before becoming well-known for films like Satya. Shefali actually portrayed Akshay Kumar's mother in Waqt: Race Against Time. She responded to this by asking, "If the actors are choosing to play these roles, who are we to comment? " in a recent interview with Times Of India. No one is being forced to cooperate with XYZ, regardless of age, by holding a pistol to their head. As long as the mother or supporting character is a fully developed one, I have never had an issue playing either. Why describe a character solely on the basis of how they interact with the main characters, in my opinion? I have acted as a mother figure to someone who is considerably older than me in the past. I want to emphasise right now, though, that I don't want to appear younger than I am. I do have kids who are 18 and 19, so I feel at ease portraying someone like that. However, I no longer desire to portray a mother to 25, 30, or 40-year-olds.

But with the release of Dil Dhadakne Do in 2015, the tide turned. The actress once more showcased her great acting talent as Neelam Mehra. Shefali had a graph of her own despite playing Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Singh's "mother," and she contributed her knowledge to improve the performance.

The actress stated in an interview, "The type of work I have done in the previous two years is something I haven't done throughout the course of my career. My career has involved less actual work and more waiting. But would I say that I think it has arrived at last? No, I won't, as that would imply that I have nothing new from which to learn or develop.

Shefali established herself as one of the greatest actors of all time with OTT content like Delhi Crime, Jalsa, and Darlings. In an interview with ANI, she discussed how the way women are portrayed in films has changed. "Before, the woman was an accessory, and she had a shelf life of 18 to 22-25," she remarked. Then, if you inquire what the character is when you are given anything, the answer is "hero ki mummy, heroine ki behen." What sort of person is she in that relationship? But as of now, all of these individuals are the main figures. The focal point of both shows and films.

Shefali also stated her opposition to method acting. "Marne ka scenario hai, to what extent is it marne wale? Will you die in the dying moment or genuinely beat someone in a violent scenario? Kisi ko marne ka scene hai to kya sach much maroge? No, you can't. However, there is a lot of consideration, discussions with the director, and acting. What is she, and from where did she come? What you are viewing is a snapshot of a person's life for three months. What led up to it and what has she become. I don't want people to think of me as "Shefali played a good role." I would much rather be known as the character, she said.

She made headlines for Delhi Crime. Shefali portrayed DCP Vartika Chaturvedi in the series, which was based on the 2012 Delhi gang rape and murder case. Along with receiving positive reviews, the show won an Emmy. She stated, "I am completely ecstatic, euphoric, and all the possible superlatives in the thesaurus that I can remember now," in an interview with IANS. It truly is fantastic! To be a part of Delhi Crime makes me incredibly proud. This victory is like the icing on top, but for me, Delhi Crime has been successful ever since I began working on it. I was aware of how unique and extraordinary this concert is. We now have a global platform thanks to the Emmy, and we are incredibly grateful for the distinction.

She expressed her shock on Instagram as Delhi Crime's second season won an Emmy. "OMGGGGG I still can't believe it," she said. I feel incredibly thrilled to be included in this group of renowned artists' International Emmy nominations. This one is really meaningful since it's for Vartika Chaturvedi, a character I relate to deeply, and because it's for my favourite programme, #DelhiCrime2. This is for the entire #DelhiCrime community.
